Regarding Bruce McFarland's Opinion column, "Issues and answers: It's as simple as that" (The Signal, June 23):
I'll only address his comments on "Gitmo."
Yes, Guantanamo was not the place for combatants without uniforms. FDR had several German spies face firing squads for being the enemy without uniforms.
The precedent was there. We should have had them shot when captured. It would have saved us a lot of grief.
