Cruz announced his candidacy for Newhall County Water District in August.

"As one of the Santa Clarita's leaders on environmental issues, Maria Gutzeit has lead the Newhall County Water District in a direction that has respected our quality of life and our environment while meeting the needs of our growing community," Cruz said.

"I look forward to working with President Gutzeit to meet our Valley's water needs and to increase the role of the District in improving our environment through the increased use of solar power and reclaimed water."
