Sunset in the Vineyard co-chairwomen, left to right, Stacey Mayfield and Betsy Linn and chapter President Jeannie Carpenter toast to the success of their fundraiser.

An afternoon of wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, music and more will entertain guests on Nov. 8 at "Sunset in the Vineyard." The event will be held from 3 - 6 p.m. at the picturesque home and Compa Vineyard of Jeannie, Chris and Tim Carpenter.

Guest will have the opportunity to enjoy tastings of a variety of wines, all from Santa Clarita Valley vintners. Highlights of the event include informal presentations by the winemakers and a fundraising raffle.

Assistance League of Santa Clarita, organized in 1989 by a group of SCV women, was chartered in 1993 and has grown to 150 members. It is a chapter of National Assistance League which was organized in 1935 as the first nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization founded in the Western United States to recognize the potential of volunteers of all ages helping those less fortunate to a better and more meaningful life.

The second annual "Sunset in the Vineyard" event will benefit the programs in the SCV offered by Assistance League of Santa Clarita.

Among the philanthropic works performed by Assistance of Santa Clarita are Operation School Bell (which provides new school clothing, shoes, supplies and health care kits to eligible elementary school children in need), The Kids on the Block (an interactive program for elementary school age children which addresses social issues), Teddy Bear Patrol (since 1989, soft, cuddly teddy bears have been provided to children who experience traumatic situations with more than 9,000 Assistance League bears distributed to SCV children since the program's inception), Family Ties (since 1990 residents of the Santa Clarita Valley Convalescent Hospital receive a monthly home cooked meal and visit from Assistance League members) and LARC Ranch (which receives an annual party).

Tickets to Sunset in the Vineyard are $55 each.
