Did you remember to “fall back” — or are you going to be everywhere an hour early today? We’re back on Pacific Standard time today, and everyone should have remembered to set their clocks back an hour before going to bed last night.

Salt Creek Grille lunch fetes ‘51’
The Signal, with Publisher Ian Lamont and top Signal staff welcoming guests, hosted the “51 most influential people in the SCV” during a luncheon held Tuesday on the patio of Salt Creek Grille. Among those seen at the scene were Bob Kellar, Wayne Crawford, Larry Rasmussen, Mark Winger, Roger Seaver, Laurie Ender, Marsha McLean, Laurene Weste, Bob Haueter, Ken Pulskamp, RJ Kelley, Scott Wilk, Father Mike Slattery, Kathy Norris, Jenny and Tim Ketchpaw, Marlee Lauffer, John Shaffery, Gail Ortiz, Dianne Van Hook, Jim Backer, Jim Ventress, Bruce McFarland, Dena Maloney, Jay Thomas, Bruce Fortine, Gloria Mercado, Randy Moberg, Hunt Braly, Arthur Sohikian, Latisha Smith, Carl and Jeri Goldman, Stephanie Weiss and Cary Quashon.

Halloween candy exchange
Before your children dive too deeply into that bag of Halloween candy the dental offices of Allen and Kelly Smudde, D.D.S. will offer families “cash for candy” as part of their anti-decay movement. The Smuddes will pay $1 per pound of candy received and participants will also receive glowing electric toothbrushes. Monday, 3:45 - 6 p.m., 27450 Tourney Road, Suite 250, Valencia. Info: (661) 259-4474 or www.drsmudde.net.

Kudos to the Haunt
If you missed the Heritage Haunt or the Pumpkin Festival held during October at the SCV Historical Society, you missed a triumph of dedication and creativity by the amazingly talented crew of “haunt-ineers” led by Ed Marg, Scott Sivley, Tony Monton, Rob Tezai and Ralph Nazarian. Kudos to everyone who made the Halloween season such fun for so many!

Last chance to honor Alan Barbakow, D.D.S.
If you’ve not secured your seat to the annual Zonta Club of SCV Tribute Dinner, now is the time. The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills. It should be a fun evening and is a great opportunity to honor one of the stalwart supporters of so much in the SCV, Alan Barbakow, D.D.S. orthodontist extraordinare and all-around good citizen. I’ve been told that the ladies might want to sign up on Barbakow’s dance card. I hear he’s an excellent dancer. For tickets call (661) 252-9351.

Rescues on the Runway
Lassie, who used to live just down the street from me in Canyon Country, will make a special appearance at the Rescues on the Runway holiday boutique, fashion show and dinner Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Hyatt Valencia. The fundraiser to save homeless dogs and cats from “death row” at Los Angeles County animal shelters is being produced by Mardi Rivetti, of Canyon Country. Tickets are $75 each and donations of money and pet supplies are needed. For more information call Mardi at (661) 252-3232 or visit www.rescuesontherunway.com.

Santa Clarita Marathon cometh
A week from today the annual Santa Clarita Marathon will find your friends and neighbors who are into that kind of thing running, walking or limping through the streets of the SCV in a full marathon, half marathon, 5K Run/Walk or Kid K. The event begins at 7 a.m. and streets will be closed or impacted during the race. To find out more visit www.scmarathon.org.
