The death is being considered noncriminal in nature and coroner's investigators are handling the case, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Scott Lusk of the Homicide Bureau.
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station found the woman, 46, dead in some brush in a wooded area located off Placerita Canyon Road and east of Highway 14 at about 4:45 a.m., Lusk said.
"They were patrolling the area and they spotted her car parked in a little turnout area," he said. "They started looking for the owner of the car and found her about 100 yards from where the car was parked."
The woman was found near a Ford Focus, Lusk said.
The cause of death remained unclear late this morning.
Coroner's officials are still investigating the death and have not yet released the woman's identity, county Coroner's Capt. John Kades said.
