A Sunland man is due in court today after he allegedly kidnapped a Saugus woman he was dating and drove her around for several hours against her will over the weekend, authorities said.
Los Angeles Police Department officers detained John Archer, 44, on Sunday, and local sheriff's deputies later arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping, officials said.
About 11 a.m. on Sunday, Archer allegedly grabbed the 33-year-old woman by the hair and forced her into her Chevrolet Blazer after she accused him of stealing her father's tools, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Jim Reid.
Archer then allegedly drove the woman around a mountainous area in the Angeles National Forest until they reached Sunland Park, where the woman screamed for help and flagged down a passerby, Reid said.
About 6 p.m., LAPD Foothill division officers detained Archer in his home in the 8900 block of Fenwick Street, located across the street from the park, Reid said.
The woman had no visible injuries, Reid added.
Archer is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station in lieu of $100,000 bail pending his Tuesday hearing, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Darren Harris.
Local detectives are still investigating the case, Harris said.
