Alleged shooter in court Tuesday on attempted murder charge

A Sylmar man is due in court Tuesday after allegedly being involved in a gang-related shooting in Newhall last week, officials said.

Deputies arrested Jose Carlos Nunez, 19, on suspicion of attempted murder at about 12:10 a.m. on Friday, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra.

The shooting allegedly occurred about 7:20 p.m. near the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Valle Del Oro, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station report.

Deputies arrested Nunez at a hospital in Sylmar where he was being treated for an apparent gunshot wound, sheriff's officials said.
