So far, there have been no incidents of mudslides from Tuesday's storm, Los Angeles County authorities said at a press conference Tuesday evening. Local sheriff's and California Highway Patrol stations reported no major traffic collisions on the Santa Clarita Valley's slick roadways.
The evacuation orders were mandatory for Acton residents of Aliso Canyon Road near the Niles Canyon Ranch and Wagonwheel Ranch areas.
Residents of Bootlegger Canyon Road, Heffner Road, Maryhill Road and parts of Soledad Canyon Road also were told to leave their homes.
The evacuations in Acton were part of orders given to 541 homes on the hillsides of La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and two canyons.
This time, residents heeded the evacuation warning with authorities estimating that 60 to 70 percent of people were obeying orders, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. The weekend mudslide damaged 43 homes.
"People, when they see what happened last Saturday, they're ready to move," he said.
Sheriff's deputies also asked residents to move their vehicles and trash cans away from the streets, where heavy rain on Saturday caused water and rocks to roar through, smashing cars and concrete barriers together.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch into late Tuesday night for burn areas.
The storm that brought dark skies and downpours Tuesday is expected to move out of the Santa Clarita Valley this morning. The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny skies for the rest of the week.
