Saugus High School was one of a handful of California high schools that won the contest. The school won on behalf of Owl City, an electro-pop music group.
“They rocked the vote,” Steve James, executive director of the California Milk Processor Board and creator of GOT MILK? said in a statement. “In a time when funds are scarce, the gift came as a great surprise to the schools. By contributing to high school arts programs today, we are helping shape the artists of tomorrow.”
The statewide contest allowed teenagers to tape their own versions of GOT MILK?’s online rock opera Battle for Milkqaurious (www.milkquarious.com), featuring White Gold, the ragged musician turned rock god thanks to the transformational powers of milk for strong bones, muscles, hair, teeth and nails.
Out of more than 100 entries received, the celebrity judges helped pick the finalists of the contest.
A public vote ultimately determined the winner on Jan. 25.
