Those who live in area are concerned cell phone tower would ruin community’s rural feel

Verizon Wireless is holding a community meeting tonight at the Valencia Public Library to hear residents’ concerns over a proposed cell phone tower on a ridge overlooking Baker Canyon in Canyon Country.

Verizon plans to construct an 80-foot tower and accompanying infrastructure, including an emergency generator. But residents are wary the tower would ruin their scenic views and disrupt the community’s rural feel.

The meeting comes as a result of the efforts of one resident, Stacey Lubell, who circulated a petition in the canyon, collecting 23 signatures from her neighbors in the small community.

The company submitted plans to rezone the property atop the ridge at 16280 Sierra Highway, near Vasquez Canyon Road, to allow for a cell phone tower there.
