William Greggory Babb, 49, was charged with 10 felony counts in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Courthouse.
"He used churches, several in Santa Clarita, to befriend children to develop a strange relationship between a 49-year-old man and 13-, 14-, 15-year-old boys," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Detective Rich Simmons of the Santa Clarita Valley station's Special Victims Bureau.
Simmons said one victim felt uncomfortable after corresponding with Babb, who stands 6-feet-1 and weighs 300 pounds. Consequently, he contacted police and turned over his correspondence with Babb.
Simmons, posing as the teen, e-mailed Babb and set up a meeting, where Babb was arrested Feb. 27.
Simmons said there may or may not be any additional victims.
It was unclear as of press time which churches Babb attended to make contact with young boys.
Babb is being held at Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $750,000, according to sheriff's records.
