For many months now, at least two of you (Thanks, Mom) have been faithfully following my "Don't Take Me Seriously" columns, which have appeared on alternate Fridays in Escape. (And, yes, I purposely move the column around in here so you have to work to find it. It makes you appreciate it more.)
Well, apparently your avalanche of approving calls and letters (Thanks again, Mom) has motivated the powers that be. Corresponding with The Signal's new redesign, my column gets a promotion to the main news pages on alternate Fridays. (I hope it shows up there today....)
However, in a tearful, soul-searching moment of self-delusion, I found I just couldn't bring myself to leave the warm and friendly confines of Escape completely, column-wise. So, here's the deal. "Don't Take Me Seriously" will appear every Friday. One week it will be in the main news (today) and the next in Escape (next week). You'll have to do the calendar math beyond that, as advanced figurin' eludes me: "If A = B and both are subsets of C, but A is mutually exclusive of B, then...."
If you lose track of when the column is where, this will create a whole adventure for you, searching for it. It will also require you to look over the whole paper, and Escape, each Friday to find the column - which may be someone's evil plan. (So, Mom, set aside time from your bungee jumping and Internet dating.)
And please don't worry that doubling my column-writing work will wear me out or cut into my sleeping time. I actually write these while I am asleep. It helps with the whole stream of consciousness thing. (But only my handlers could explain the technology behind the FireWire-to-my-forehead process.)
Whatever, thank you for putting up with my ravings and thank you for reading Escape each week. Presenting it all for you is my pleasure.
