The Santa Clarita Valley Congress of Republicans has endorsed Mayor Laurene Weste in her bid for a third term on the City Council.

Weste won the endorsement after answering questions from board members at a meeting Thursday, said Chapter President Jeff Brown.

Council members Frank Ferry, Marsha McLean and challengers TimBen Boydston and David Gauny also participated but none received enough votes for an endorsement, Brown said.

"That doesn't mean we don't want any of the other (candidates) to win," Brown said. "That's just how our bylaws work."

Gauny was endorsed by the Santa Clarita Valley California Republican Assembly, a different Republican group, in February as he tires to claim one of three council seats up for grabs on April 13.

The SCV chapter of the Congress of Republicans was formed 22 years ago. Brown said. It is the local chapter of the state organization which is chartered by the Republican Party, he said.
