Three lanes on Interstate 5 just north of Templin Highway were shut down for three hours Wednesday night during commuter traffic when a big rig towing a modular house overturned due to high winds, authorities said.

The solo-vehicle accident happened at 4:10 p.m. about two miles south of the Vista de Lago exit near the visitor center that overlooks Pyramid Lake.

“If it wasn’t for the wind, this would not have happened,” said Officer Monica Posada with the California Highway Patrol.

No injuries were reported.

One lane and the shoulder remained open as a crew attempted to flip the big-rig back on its 18 wheels.

The National Weather Service reported northwest winds at 36 mph and gusts up to 60 mph at 3:57 p.m. at Whittaker Peak, which is six miles southwest of Castaic Lake.

High winds were expected to remain in place throughout the night.

“Then probably around sunrise (today), the wind direction is expected to shift to the northeast at 15 to 25 mph, gusting to 40 mph until about (tonight), when the wind speed will decrease to 10 to 20 mph,” said weather specialist Stuart Seto.
