A man suspected of two burglaries in Canyon Country over the past month was arrested at his home on Wednesday after trying to elude sheriff’s deputies, authorities said.

Rodrick Butler, 24, armed with a small semiautomatic handgun reported stolen from Glendale, bolted from detectives when they came to the door of his Canyon Country apartment, according to a sheriff’s statement.

The chase began to unfold at 9:30 a.m. in the 18000 block of Annes Circle.

Twenty-plus deputies, search dogs and helicopters swarmed the area, searching cars and crevices to find Butler.

They later found him hiding in a garage.

Butler had dumped the gun in his apartment before authorities found him at about noon.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of a concealed weapon and stolen property.

He was taken to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where he was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
