With some of your favorite restaurants, and even the traditional Los Angeles St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival gone a glimmering, it's more important than ever to plan your St. Patrick's Day celebrations carefully. Here's what's happening in the SCV and nearby.

Saturday, March 13
Knights of Columbus St. Patrick's Day Race

Starting at 9 a.m., the Knights of Columbus host their 30th St. Patrick's Day Race. The 5K race starts and finishes in Mentryville at the west end of Pico Canyon Road. Entry forms are available in the Runners Lane shoe store. There are 22 age group divisions, with awards for the first three in each division. Race day registration is $25; $30 with race T-shirt.

Dancing and Irish music follow. Tickets before March 13 are $20; at the door $25. Children ages 6 through 12 are $15, and children under 6 are free.

The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Hermosa Beach begins at 11 a.m. at intersection of Pier and Valley Drive, then moves west to Hermosa Avenue then South on Hermosa to 9th Street. The festival will be held at Pier Plaza. The events are free. Use metered street parking and obey posted signs.
