Did you remember to "spring forward?" I like "falling back" much, much better, but, alas, I guess the world runs smoother when everyone is on the "same" schedule!

Newsmakers Awards on Friday
The 13th annual Newsmakers Awards will be held Friday at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Business attire, 6 p.m. cocktails and 7 p.m. dinner. Music, fun, raffles. NO live auction. Really. You know you really want to attend! This event will be about celebrating the people, places and organizations that make the Santa Clarita Valley a unique and wonderful place to live. Tickets are $70 each. This event is a fundraiser for the Randy Wicks Memorial First Amendment Scholarship Foundation. E-mail mbuttelman@the-signal.com or call (661) 902-5590 for your reservation. Final day for reservations is Wednesday.

SCV Youth Project
The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project recently elected a new Executive Committee. New officers include: President Gregg Goodman, of Gregg Goodman Farmers Insurance; Vice President Jerry Citarella, of Infinity Wealth Management; Secretary Renee Kaehny, owner of Rituals Colour Salon; Treasurer Tom Hough, CPA; Nancy Starczyk of Realty Executives as member-at-large and John Musella, of Newhall Land, as immediate past president. The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project is celebrating 10 years of providing services to teens. In the past decade, they have touched the lives of more than 27,000 youth and 5,000 adults. Additionally, they have expanded their program from just a few campuses to now being active on all the high school and junior high schools in the William S. Hart District. In the 2008-2009 school year, the Youth Project provided more than 5,000 sessions of support to more than 1,000 youth in the SCV with serious life challenges, including depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure and drug/alcohol abuse.
