Wednesday, the Centurions showed why.
Even though the Indians' girls team won 123-47 and the boys won 112-58, Saugus pulled out a dramatic win in the boys 200-yard freestyle relay and finished second through fourth in the boys 100 freestyle at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center in both teams' league opener.
"They've got some good, good freestylers," said Hart head coach Steve Neale. "We had some good places in the backstroke and breaststroke, and that's what widened the score."
The Indians swept the boys 100 backstroke, led by Konrad Antoniuk's time of 54.10 seconds.
Antoniuk also won 100 butterfly in 52.38, and was a member of Hart's 200-medley relay team with Alex Ngan, Grant Miladin and Wilson Bellows, which won in 1:44.29.
Likewise, the Indians' 400-freestyle relay team took first in 3:22.87.
However, the 200-freestyle relay saw a different result, as the Centurions' team of Jonathan Morsch, Justin Peris, Ian Cook and Luke Rowley won by a .5-margin, finishing in 1:35.35.
Saugus' other winner on the day was Caitlin Baker in the 100 breaststroke with a CIF-Southern Section Division I consideration time of 1:10.69.
"If I was to look at the sheet with all the results, I'd almost guarantee that 90 percent of (our) times were better," said Centurions head coach Vicky Donnelly of her team's overall improvement.
The Indians finished first, second and fourth in the boys 100 breaststroke, led by Grant Miladin's time of 1:07.48, to earn 12 late points.
Hart's other individual winners on the boys' side included Mitch Johnson (200 freestyle, 1:52.10 and 500 freestyle, 4:52.08), Cogswell (200 individual medley, 2:09.37) and Alex Ngan (50 freestyle, 23.00 and 100 freestyle, 50.16).
The Indians' girls team was led by Maggie Hanson, who won the 200 IM (2:10.06) and 100 backstroke (1:02.47), and Sam Asencio, who took the 50 freestyle (25.65) and 100 butterfly (1:01.24).
