"(Schultz) has been very outspoken about reasonable development and against over-development," said Dave Morrow, the club's chair.
Schultz, a former Santa Clarita parks commissioner, chaired the Sierra Club's Angeles Chapter for 10 years. The local chapter has about 50,000 members from around Los Angeles County, Morrow said.
This is Schultz's third campaign for a seat on Santa Clarita's City Council. In 2004, he was 802 votes away from beating Councilman Bob Kellar for a council seat, according to past election results.
The Sierra Club is also supporting Councilwoman Marsha McLean in her bid for re-election although the club did not give her a full endorsement, Morrow said.
"McLean is just under a full endorsement," Morrow said.
Schultz is also endorsed by the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley.
Santa Clarita's City Council election is on Tuesday, April 13.
