If the event is any indication, Hart may have the inside track on the girls' side, but the boys' race remains as close as ever.
The Indians girls team took first place with a score of 262, while the boys team edged Valencia 246-244 on Friday at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.
"We have the depth and high-end swimmers in the girls, but the boys will be a shootout at the O.K. Corral," said Hart head coach Steve Neale.
Hart and Valencia were tied at 212 going into the final event.
The Indians' 200-yard medley relay team of Daniel Stevenson, Grant Miladin, Mitch Johnson and Wilson Bellows finished second behind West Ranch's team of Riley Mita, Kyle Burke, Philip Wong and Andrew Cselenyak, but ahead of the Vikings.
The Wildcats won with a time 1 minute, 42.86 seconds.
"We had a fantastic performance," said West Ranch head coach Aaron Worby. "The SCV relays are always a crap-shoot when trying to strategize."
The Wildcat boys finished third at 240, with a win in the 200-breaststroke relay (2:00.49), while the girls team took fifth overall with a score of 208.
Hart won the girls 4x100-individual medley relay (4:13.17), girls 200-breaststroke relay (2:14.33), girls 400-freestyle relay (3:45.43), girls 200-medley relay (1:54.45), boys 200-butterfly relay (1:42.31) and boys 200-backstroke relay (1:47.78).
Despite Hart's wins, the Viking boys and Canyon girls took home the meet records.
Thanks to Bob Hwang, Bryan Kitchener, Stephen Haw, Dakota Miller, Andrew Tiemann and Jason Kitchener, Valencia won the 6x50-freestyle relay 2:18.18, while the 400-freestyle relay team of Hwang, Kitchener, Haw and Jaryd Borja set a new meet mark of 3:18.05.
"We stepped up a notch, gained confidence and got a swagger," said Vikings head coach Mike Bechtholdt.
Valencia also won the boys 4x100-individual medley relay (3:50.09). Its girls team placed third (220).
The Canyon girls, which took second with a score of 234, set records in the 200-butterfly relay (1:47.10) and 200-backstroke relay (1:52.37). Both teams were made up of Adria Morales, Shayla Austen, Allison Morales and Kearsten Livingstone.
The Cowboys also won the 6x50-freestyle relay (2:35.36). Their boys team took fifth overall (208).
The Saugus boys took fourth (210) and Golden Valley finished sixth (104), while on the girls side, the Centurions placed third (218) and the Grizzlies were sixth (188).
