Want a piece of McBean Parkway? It could soon be in your hands.

Beginning this week, Santa Clarita city officials will hand out 200 old street signs to local nonprofit groups to sell or auction off to help them raise a little extra cash.

Since last year, city workers have switched out the small green street signs with big, blue shiny ones at the city's biggest intersections. The old signs were posted by the county before Santa Clarita became a city more than 20 years ago, said Byron Moline, general services manager for the city.

The most valuable of the relics just might be the signs for San Fernando Road, a street name the city eliminated earlier this year as part of its revitalization plan for downtown Newhall.

The signs will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups will be notified which signs they will be given and will be told when to pick them up at the city's Public Works yard.
