Tomorrow, May 15, hundreds of runners and walkers will follow the cross-country course along the hills and tree-lined trails of Central Park. Produced by JCI Santa Clarita Valley (the Jaycees), this event is the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund's largest annual fundraiser.
This 5K race and walk-a-thon is open to walkers and runners of all abilities - and their canine companions. This is a cross country trail, so those runners who appreciate a break from pounding their joints on concrete and asphalt will love this race. New this year is a non-competitive 1K (Fun K) for kids of all ages.
Participants will enjoy a hearty breakfast and prize giveaways with their admission. Race day registration for the 5K for students K-12, active duty military, police and fire personnel is $20 and 1K registration is $15. For regular adults, 5K registration is $35 and 1K registration is $20. Pet registration will be $5 and includes a pet goody bag.
The 1K will start at 7:30 a.m. with a warm-up at 7:15 a.m. The 5K will start at 8 a.m. with a warm-up at 7:45 a.m. The awards ceremony and prize giveaway will begin at 9:30 a.m. First through third place will be awarded in each 5K age/sex division, as well as first through third in the 5K overall. The 5K event is measured and officiated by the Santa Clarita Runners. The top fundraiser overall will receive an award.
Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. Visit www.fightit5k.com for more information.
