Local high school football players opened their mouths and expanded their stomachs for a shot at earning cash for their teams.
The fundraiser, known as the “Burrito Bowl,” involved all six Foothill League football teams assembling five-member teams to tackle 4-foot-long burritos.
Golden Valley High School devoured its burrito first, securing a first-place prize of $1,000 for its football program. West Ranch High School came in second, earning $400 for its team, followed by a tie for third place between Saugus and Hart for $250 each, and a fourth-place tie between Valencia and Canyon for $250 each.
The July 7 event was sponsored by the SCV Concierge and La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill, which provided the burritos and the venue in Stevenson Ranch. Each team was also individually sponsored by local businesses.
“I feel that it brought a camaraderie throughout the entire Santa Clarita Valley. All these kids know each other from different sports, but they never get the chance to come together to be a big family,” said Tabitha Guzman, West Ranch High School football booster club president. “It was an opportunity for everyone to be a big family without it being a competitive environment.”
