San Francisquito Road in Saugus was shut down during rush hour Tuesday after a man apparently lost control of his pickup truck and slammed into a power pole.

Around 4:30 p.m. the man was driving north on San Francisquito near Copper Hill Drive, when sheriff’s deputies said he apparently lost control on a curve, sending the Chevrolet truck slamming into the pole, which in turn fell across the road.

Information about the driver, who was alone, was scant late Tuesday afternoon.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the man was standing outside his truck and bleeding from the face, said Capt. Patrick Errett of Los Angeles County Fire Station 126.

Firefighters directed the man to safety away from the live power lines and he was taken by paramedics to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Errett said.

Crews from Southern California Edison shut off the power over a roughly eighth-mile stretch of the line before the truck was towed away, its front end crumpled and bent.

About five homes lost power as a result of the shutoff, Edison Troubleman Gordon McNeill said. He expected the outage to last for several hours.

The closed section of San Francisquito Road was expected to reopen to traffic by early evening, sheriff’s Lt. Tom Bryski said.
