LOS ANGELES COUNTY - Two and a half million dollars in American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds have been approved for roadway resurfacing projects in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County near Acton, Agua Dulce and Palmdale, according to Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

The roadway pavement resurfacing will consist of rubberized asphalt using nearly 22,000 waste tires from landfills. This project will generate nearly 70 new jobs and is one of the first projects in Southern California to be funded with economic stimulus funds.

It will include improvements on:

* Angeles Forest Highway - south of the BNSF/UPRR railroad tracks to north of mile marker 3.00
* Crown Valley Road - Antelope Woods Road to Soledad Canyon Road
* Sierra Highway - 144 feet east of Dusty Drive to 3237 feet east of Dusty Drive
* 70th Street East - Avenue N to north of Palmdale Boulevard

Supervisor Antonovich also directed the Department of Public Works to work with the town councils and communities to determine the timing of construction and reduce impact on local traffic, businesses and residents.
