The pilot and passenger of a small plane were uninjured after making a forced landing on a dirt road near Six Flags Magic Mountain Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Los Angeles County firefighters responded to a call of a downed plane about a mile-and-a-half south of the amusement park.

Once on scene, they found a two-seat Kitfox Speedster that had made a “hard landing,” Fire Department Inspector Steve Zermeno said.

Firefighters found pilot Karl Florine and his passenger, whose name was not available, walking toward Magic Mountain. Neither were injured.

“There was some landing gear and propeller damage,” Zermeno said.

The plane had been flown out of Whiteman Airport in Van Nuys, sheriff’s Lt. Tom Bryski said. He added that Florine landed the plane after apparently losing power.

Based in Idaho, Kitfox manufactures the two-seater, relatively low-power kit planes. A woman at Kitfox’s offices refused to answer questions about the Speedster model when contacted by phone Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration lists the plane as being owned by James Feldmann of Burbank, who could not be reached Tuesday.

The surprise landing did not affect operations at Magic Mountain, park spokeswoman Sue Carpenter said.
