The city of Santa Clarita has been awarded the grand prize for best economic development program in the state of California for its tourism program.

This marks the second year in a row that the city has won the honor.

According to a release from the city, Santa Clarita's tourism program has been successful in positioning the city as a "lifestyle" destination to attract regional visitors via event tourism, both through sporting events such as Amgen Tour of California and the AT&T Champions Classic, as well as other cultural events.

Economic impact from these events reportedly generates more than $10 million annually to the Santa Clarita community.

The award was presented May 1 by the California Association of Local Economic Developers, the state's professional economic development organization in California, which recognizes outstanding and innovative programs which have made a significant contribution to the field of economic development.
