A former Rio Norte Junior High School teaching assistant was charged with prostitution this week for the second time in less than two months - this time in New York.

Katherine Silvers, 56, of Frazier Park, had been scheduled to appear in court Thursday after being arrested in Westbury, New York, on suspicion of one felony count of unauthorized practice of a profession and one misdemeanor count of prostitution, said Detective Sgt. Anthony Repalone of the Nassau County Police Department.

Silvers was arrested Wednesday in the Long Island suburb about 6:30 p.m. after she allegedly posed as a licensed massage therapist, Repalone said. More specific details were not available Thursday.

The former school aide was also arrested in late September in Frazier Park with her 31-year-old daughter, Sarah Sunshine, on suspicion of soliciting prostitution and managing a massage parlor without a license.

In that incident, the women allegedly took off their clothes for an undercover detective who responded to their online advertisements for mother-daughter massage specials.

The advertisements, posted on Craigslist.com and Backpage.com, included suggestive language and photos of the women dressed in corsets, fishnet stockings and a see-through, feathery robe.

Silvers' employment with the William S. Hart Union High School District ended shortly after her first arrest, said district spokeswoman Pat Willett.

Willett said she was not allowed to release whether Silvers left on her own accord or was fired.
