Firefighter Jeff Hurd rode in a golf cart with clubs in tow around the Tournament Players Club in Valencia on Monday in honor of two fallen colleagues.

"They gave everything," Hurd said of Tedmund "Ted" Hall and Arnaldo "Arnie" Quinones, two firefighters he worked with who died trying to evacuate an inmate crew near Mount Gleason during the Station Fire.

"We can do this (for them) - it's the least we can do," said Hurd, the camp foreman of inmate crew Camp 14 in Saugus.

Hurd was one of about 150 golfers who showed up for the event to raise money for the the families of the two firefighters who died in the line of duty.

"It will just take some of the burden off them financially," said firefighter paramedic Buck Ballentine of Fire Station 73 in Newhall.

"They will no longer have someone coming home with a paycheck. Any of us could be in that situation."

Local businesses also contributed by donating raffle prizes such as a Hawaii vacation, hotel stays, golf equipment and tool sets.

The private Valencia golf club also offered the firefighters a discount in honor of Hall and Quinones.

Anthony Falasca, the course's director of membership sales, said the club also did it to offer gratitude to local firefighters who put out a fire on the course two years ago.

"It was just our way of giving back to them," Falasca said.

Meanwhile, Hurd said there was only one thing that could have improved the tournament.

"The only thing that could make it better," he said, "is if those two guys were with us."
