Coroner's officials have identified a body found this week near Interstate 5 as missing 18-year-old Valencia High School student Brigett Andrea Kennemore, and said she hanged herself.
The teenage Newhall resident was found Monday amid a cluster of trees off of the I-5 near Highway 126, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Wayne Holston of the Homicide Bureau.
She had used a bungee cord to hang herself from a tree branch, Holston said.
Coroner's officials confirmed Friday the cause of death was suicide, and detectives found no signs of foul play in her death, Holston said.
Kennemore, who relatives said was developmentally disabled, had been missing since Oct. 26 when she was last seen getting off a bus in Castaic. Relatives said they believed Kennemore had recently broken up with her boyfriend.
Newhall resident Angelica Gomez, a friend of Kennemore's aunt, has set up a Bank of America memorial fund to help the family with funeral and other expenses.
"It is difficult to deal with the process," Gomez said of the family's hardship. "There's still a lot of unanswered questions."
Gomez said the family has not yet chosen a date for a memorial service.
Those who wish to donate to the family may do so any Bank of America branch. Checks can be written to "The Brigett Kennemore Memorial Fund."
