Two men were arrested after leading sheriff's deputies on a chase through Canyon Country in a stolen car, authorities said.
Deputies arrested North Hollywood residents Georgio Placeres, 27, and Judd Vear, 22, on Wednesday on suspicion of possession of burglary tools, felony evasion and car theft, Hershey said.
Vear was also arrested on suspicion of brandishing a gun, Hershey added.
About 3:48 a.m., deputies pulled over a 2007 Nissan Sentra on Soledad Canyon Road near Crossglade Avenue, Hershey said.
Placeres was in the driver's seat and Vear was the passenger, Hershey added.
Placeres allegedly sped away in the car after a deputy approaching the vehicle saw Vear pull a gun from his waistband and appear to be trying to hide it, Hershey said.
The suspects led deputies on a pursuit that lasted about two minutes before the suspects stopped near the intersection of Foxlane Drive and Basel Street, got out of the car and started running, Hershey said.
Deputies caught Placeres, the driver, after he slipped and fell while Vear escaped, Hershey said.
Deputies in a helicopter later located Vear, who was allegedly hiding on a house roof a couple of blocks away on Tambora Drive, using an infrared camera that detects body heat, Hershey said.
Vear tried to run away, prompting deputies to use a non-lethal "flash-bang" grenade to stun him with a loud boom and a bright flash of light, Hershey said.
Both suspects have previous felony convictions that include car theft, Hershey said. Both are on felony parole.
Placeres and Vear are being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and are due in court Friday.
