A former Rio Norte Junior High School teaching assistant arrested twice in the last two months on suspicion of prostitution-related charges took a plea deal in New York earlier this week, officials said.

Katherine Silvers, 56, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of performing a professional massage without a license, said Chris Munzing, deputy director of communications for the Nassau County District Attorney's Office.

Silvers was released from custody after she was sentenced to time she already served, which was two weeks in jail, Munzing said.

Nassau County Police Department officers arrested Silvers in Westbury, N.Y., on Nov. 4 after she offered to perform a sexual act on an undercover detective who responded to a Craigslist advertisement for a sensual massage, officials said.

Silvers was arrested on suspicion of one felony count of unauthorized practice of a profession and one misdemeanor count of prostitution, officials said.

The former teaching aide was also arrested with her 31-year-old daughter, Sarah Sunshine, in late September after the women allegedly removed their clothing for a Kern County Sheriff's detective responding to an online advertisement for a mother-daughter massage.
