A Stevenson Ranch woman’s Thanksgiving weekend has turned into a frantic search after she found out a local grooming shop accidentally gave her the wrong dog.
It only took Jo Joshua, 58, a few minutes to realize the fluffy, white bichon frise her son brought home Wednesday night was not her beloved Teddy Bear.
“I know my dog, and I know this one was nothing like my dog,” Joshua said, adding that the bichon frise in her home was too small and had unfamiliar brown marks on its face.
She called the groomers only to find out Teddy Bear was accidentally given to someone else and had run away from the other pet owner into the riverbed wash in Canyon Country.
Joshua and her adult children cancelled Thanksgiving dinner.
They spent the next couple of days passing out more than 500 flyers and scouring area on foot and on bikes.
Joshua is offering a $1,000 reward to whoever brings her dog back home. She worries about where he might be.
“He must be so frightened,” Joshua said while choking back tears.
She said the loss left her with a nightmare of a coyote attacking Teddy Bear in the wash. “I’m asking people our there if they see him to please call me.”
Joshua said her dog is a part of the family, and he is by her side everywhere she goes.
“If I go to the beach, he goes to the beach,” she said. “He’s just like a real friend. He’s just so trusting, and he smiles. ... This has been very traumatic for our family.”
Teddy Bear is a small, white dog with black eyes and no collar.
Because of his trip to the groomers, his hair might be shorter than the photo shown on the flyer, and he might be wearing a fall-themed scarf, according to flyers posted by the family.
