Deputies were searching for a man who allegedly hit someone with a hammer in a Canyon Country store, officials said.
About 4:30 p.m., a Canyon Country man was leaving the Big Lots! store on Soledad Canyon Road when another man came up behind him and slammed the hammer into his neck, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Robert Lewis.
A manager who witnessed the attack called deputies and the suspect ran away, Lewis said.
The shopper was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and was being treated for moderate injuries, Lewis said.
Deputies were still investigating the incident and trying to identify the suspect Wednesday night, Lewis added.
