A Stevenson Ranch man ended up in the hospital late Monday night after plummeting some 40 feet off the roof of a Valencia parking garage.

Emergency personnel responded to Westfield Valencia Town Center around 11:30 p.m., after the 21-year-old fell from the fourth floor of a parking structure at the mall, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station report.

The man was apparently trying to slide down the handrail of the structure stairwell when he fell, according to the report.

A friend reportedly tried to grab him but could not hold on.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel transported the man to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.

His injuries were serious, according to Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Sheriff’s Station. No other information was available about his condition late Tuesday afternoon.
