Sayre Fire 85 percent contained; air improves

The Sayre Fire held at 85 percent contained as of late this afternoon, burning a total of 11,234 acres since it began late Friday.

Firefighters continue to hold and improve constructed firelines south of Placerita Canyon. Firefighting personnel are extinguishing hot spots within 300 feet inside the fire lines, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Five hundred mobile homes and nine single-family homes were destroyed and 15 homes were damaged, the department reports.

Altogether, 1,360 firefighting personnel were deployed during the Sayre Fire and Los Angeles city and county inspection teams continue fire damage assessment.

South Coast Air Quality Management officials reported the Santa Clarita Valley had moderate air quality today and is expected to have moderate air quality Thursday.

Air defined by the AQMD as "acceptable" may contain pollutants still ofr concern to people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.
