Better get used to seeing these names in the same sentence.
The three swimmers and others spent the past few days in the same pool, competing in the USA Grand Prix of swimming in Long Beach where Hart's Danny was one of 21 swimmers representing Santa Clarita's Canyons Aquatic Club.
Danny, Valencia High freshman Bob Hwang and Canyon High's duo of K.T. Livingstone and Chelsea Griffiths each took turns starring on a big stage.
It was the youngest of the locals who stole the show.
Hwang, just 14 years old, was the only swimmer his age to make it to day two in any event.
The phenom re-broke his own Southern California age-group records in both the 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley.
"What's really impressive is that he was doing it against swimmers much older than him,"20said Canyons head coach Jeff Conwell. "There were 20-year-olds out there against him."
The Viking freshman started off the prix in grand fashion Saturday, breaking former Hart swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Anthony Ervin's team age 14-15 record in the 100 freestyle, finishing his leg of the 4x100 free relay with a time of 47.22 seconds. He then went on to break his own record in the 200 fly, winning the consolation championship.
Chelsea Griffiths, already the Foothill League's backstroke record-holder, took seventh place in the 200 backstroke with a 2:06.09 on Saturday while the aquatic club's 400 freestyle relay took fourth place Saturday with a swim of 3:35.43.
Griffiths achieved junior national status during the prelims, where she dropped more than five seconds off her personal best in the event to reach the finals. She also made the cut in the 100 backstroke.
"It was really big for her to make those cuts because this wasn't even an event she really tapered a lot for," Conwell said.
Danny got into the mix Sunday with another club record-breaking performance.
The junior breaststroke star took eighth in the 200-yard finals. She competed in the same pool with Olympians Beard and Tara Kirk in the championship heat.
"Last year this is where she had her real breakthrough performance,"20Conwell said of the event for Danny. "This time, she was even better."
Her Monday performance wasn't as strong as she failed to reach the 100 breaststroke finals. Conwell said Danny will swim the event again today in a qualifier at USC.
Canyon's Livingstone, who took 12th in the 200 fly finals Saturday, also swam Monday, taking sixth in the B fly final and sixth in the 100 backstroke consolation.
Griffiths earned her second junior national time of the trip in the 100 back, winning the B final with a time of 56.46.
