Strong winds up to 70 mph and single-digit humidity will heighten wildfire danger this weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley and other areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The National Weather Service has hoisted a Red Flag Warning that will fly throughout the region from noon Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday.

A strong high pressure system off the California Coast is building over the Great Basin and will generate high winds in most of Southern California, especially in the SCV and other local valleys, according to the service.

The strongest winds are likely Friday evening through Saturday morning, when gusts could reach 60-70 mph in the SCV, Soledad Canyon and other local mountain passes.

The service expects humidity levels to drop below critical single-digit levels through the weekend.

The combination of the very strong winds and extremely low humidity produces dangerous fire weather conditions.

Adding to the danger are sunny skies and warming temperatures.

Friday's high will be in the mid-60s; temperatures will heat up a few degrees Saturday before jumping into the upper 70s Sunday and Monday.
