It was "Eye of the Tiger" meets "Million Dollar Babes" at the 2008 Miss Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Program held Sunday at the Hyatt Valencia. The dual boxing-themed pageants featured a total of nearly 60 competitors seeking to TKO the competition and seize one of the 20 major titles up for grabs.
A bevy of new SCV royalty was crowned during the two pageants - an afternoon soiree for the Little Miss SCV and Miss Teen SCV contestants and an evening event for the Miss SCV, Ms. SCV, Mrs. SCV and Mr. SCV competitors. Community queens, representing Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus, Stevenson Ranch, Valencia and Val Verde and regional queens, representing the entire Santa Clarita Valley were crowned.
The first pageant - judged by Sharon Bronson, Judith Cassis, Elizabeth Owen, Nicole Wong Lopez and Ken Bare - named Audrey Hixon, 10, of Valencia, the 2008 Little Miss SCV (ages 8-12). She attends Tesoro del Valle Elementary School.
In addition, Little Miss First Princess Jenna Dietrich, and Little Miss Second Princess Ashley Orandi were also crowned.
Hadley Kirkpatrick, 17, of Canyon Country was named Miss Teen SCV (ages 13-17). She is a student at Canyon High School where she is a cheerleader.
The Miss Teen community queens are Miss Teen Canyon Country Dannay Rodriquez, Miss Teen Newhall Kelsie Leach, Miss Teen Saugus Kimberly Patrick, Miss Teen Stevenson Ranch Amanda Eyrich and Miss Teen Valencia Kimberly Petot.
At the evening pageant - judged by Tora Brown, Dora Zavala, Nikki Mahaffey, Cat Cunningham, Deborah Gellen and Arthur G. Lesmez - Hope Morrice, 23, of Canyon Country, was named Miss SCV (ages 18-25). She previously served as Miss Teen SCV in 2002.
The Miss SCV community queens are Miss Canyon Country Nicole Steinfeld, Miss Castaic Seher Awan, Miss Newhall Emily Chetner, Miss Saugus Michelle Lopez, Miss Stevenson Ranch Kendell Myler, Miss Valencia Michelle Kelly and Miss Val Verde Tatiana Sanchez.
Amanda Lee Wasvary, 32, was named the first Ms. SCV, a new competition category for women age 26 and older and unmarried.
Kendra Quiros, 31, was named Mrs. SCV.
Paul De La Cerda, 33, was named Mr. SCV.
The two pageants, which attracted more than 800 attendees, featured competition in personal interview, fitness, formal wear, evening gown, sponsor speech and required two to eight hours of community service per contestant, depending on age.
Each pageant also featured a special "Mother's Tribute" where the contestants presented their mothers with a flower on stage and a special walk with their formal-wear clad escorts - fathers, brothers, uncles or friends. Crowns, sashes and trophies were also presented for Miss Photogenic, Miss Spirit and Miss Congeniality in each competition category.
The new titleholders will reign for the coming year and make appearances at a variety of nonprofit and civic events, including SCV Chamber of Commerce ribbon cuttings and mixers, the annual Fourth of July parade and assisting at numerous fundraisers.
The Miss SCV Scholarship Program awards scholarships to retiring royalty after they complete their year of community service. The Miss SCV Program is not affiliated with any national pageant program.
