In what alternative universe does Stephen Winkler reside ("Think before you vote," Letters, April 24)? Hillary Clinton is the Democratic party candidate and John McCain is a liberal Republican?
Not on this planet!
It is highly unlikely that Hillary will receive the nomination as it is mathematically impossible. The race is over! The sooner the Democratic nominee starts to bring out all of John McCain's drawbacks, the better.
Sen. McCain was one of the Keating Five in the savings and loan scandal. He has voted against equal pay for women. He has voted against a new G.I. Bill for our returning veterans. He has voted against requiring the CIA to abide by the Geneva Convention regarding torture.
He has voted against more assistance for New Orleans and embraced a minister who has said New Orleans got what it deserved. He has no problem with continuing our Iraq fiasco and even wants to expand on it.
Although he criticized the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, he now wants to make them permanent. He is against any relief for homeowners in the current financial crisis.
Sen. McCain stood on the stage at the Republican Values Voter debate while the choir sang why God should not bless America. Sen. McCain may be a Vietnam War hero, but his definition of patriotism, and Mr. Winkler's, is woefully lacking.
Two thirds of Americans state that the country is on the wrong track.
More of the same policies that got us on that wrong track, as promoted by Sen. McCain, will only make the situation worse. Hillary will not be the candidate.
Vote Obama!

I will never vote for Obama under any circumstances or any conditions in any universe that I reside in.
Hillary will be the Democratic candidate, unless the Democrats want to see a President McCain, which incidentally, will be good for America. However, why be satisfied with good? Why not vote for greatness and Hillary will be great for America.
Democrats will lose this election, if they continue to state that McCain will be another Bush. He is too independent and too liberal to be another Bush. McCain will be like Theodore Roosevelt; Bush is like William Howard Taft; Hillary will be like Woodrow Wilson; and Obama is like Eugene V. Debs. We do not want the Socialist candidate; we want the Democratic candidate.
Now a word to our local Democratic candidates. I will support you, if you signed my petition to qualify to be a candidate for the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee. Only one of the three local candidates did that. I will still support you, if you show me what you have done to help Hillary Clinton. Finally, if you have two strikes against you, I will still support you, if you resign from the Democratic Alliance for Action and join one of the other clubs, such as the Democratic Neighbors of the 38th or the Democratic Club of the Santa Clarita Valley. Otherwise, its three strikes and I will fly to Florida and other swing states to help elect Democrats there.
