Rio Norte Junior High School eighth-graders had the chance to visit the East Coast on their recent spring break.
Students explored New York, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Mt. Vernon and Washington D.C. with history teacher Ron Ippolito as their director.
With Congress in session, the group also had a chance to meet with U.S. Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon.
McKeon, R-Santa Clarita, took time to speak with the students and educate them on the responsibilities of
Congress and how they could become involved citizens on local and national levels.
Student Derek Faraldo said that being a page or intern was something he planned to do.
Risa Rubin, Clara Park and Maddie Homa all said their favorite part of the trip was the Capitol and that it
was "really cool to meet Congressman McKeon."
