Detectives are investigating an apparent gang-related shooting that occurred in Newhall on Thursday night, possibly injuring at least one person, officials said Friday morning.
Deputies responded to an area in Newhall at about 7:20 p.m. after a caller reported hearing 10 to 15 gunshots, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Darren Harris.
Near the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Valle Del Oro, deputies found evidence that shots were fired but were unable to find any suspects or victims, Harris said.
An investigation led detectives to a hospital outside the Santa Clarita Valley where a 19-year-old man was being treated for an apparent gunshot wound, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station report.
Detectives later served a search warrant at an apartment in the 27000 block of Via Canon in Newhall in connection with the case, according to the report. The investigation continued into Friday night.
The hospital patient is being considered a person of interest, Harris said.
“We believe he was involved with the incident but haven’t determined to what extent,” Harris said.
Detectives do not yet know how many people were involved in the shooting or if any of those people were injured, Harris said.
They have, however, determined the shooting did not injure any innocent bystanders, he added.
