Sink a putt, save a life.

That mantra will be on the minds of local golfers Monday, as the Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue Team is hosting a golf tournament at The Tournament Player's Club in Valencia.

Monday's golf fundraiser will help the team promote safety in local mountains and outdoor recreational facilities. Funds raised at the event on the fairway will benefit the Search and Rescue Team, which is staffed by local volunteers and reserve sheriff's deputies, and works with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Team members have already joined with local business and community leaders for a day of hacking, splicing and swinging - all in the name of community support.

Thinking creatively, the organizers uniquely formatted the tournament as a golf scabble, where each golfer will utilize at least 3-drives. Teams that place in the top three in either the men's, mixed, or women's teams will earn prizes. Those that are not so lucky to place should not lose heart, though, as other prizes are awarded through a raffle.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday at The Tournament Player's Club, with a continental breakfast served before golfers hit the greens. A barbecue lunch and post-tournament festivities will also be offered. To participate, contact tournament chairman Ken Wiseman at (661) 775-0611.
