A Santa Clarita code enforcement officer will give Canyon Country residents an update on the city’s new Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program at tonight’s Canyon Country Advisory Committee meeting.
On June 26, city officials threw a code enforcement block party in an aging neighborhood off Whites Canyon Road to encourage residents to clean up their homes and yards.
Some of the homes needed new roofs or paint jobs, while others had weeds and old, unused cars in their yards.
The code enforcement officers invited 130 homeowners within a five-block radius to a city-sponsored barbecue where city staff tried to point residents in the right direction, explaining who to call to report problems like potholes and graffiti. The city can also help with housing rehabilitation for city residents who fall within certain low-income brackets.
The residents in the 130 homes were given 30 days to spruce up their properties before a code enforcement officer goes out to enforce.
Tonight, Supervising Community Preservation Officer Curtis Williams will explain the next steps for the program.
The meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Activity Center Banquet Room at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex. The Sports Complex is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway in Canyon Country.

I am very happy to read about code enforcement and community preservation taking a stand on neighborhoods falling into disrepair. I live in an older neighborhood (Timberline/Shadow Pines) and would love to see code enforcement come through and encourage home owners to clean up their properties. These are very charming, working class neighborhoods and it's sad to see homeowners let their properties become the eyesore of the neighborhood and bring down the value of all the homes in the area.
