Santa Clarita Christian stayed undefeated on the season but it wasn't easy Saturday, in a 33-20 win over Rolling Hills Prep in San Pedro.
The Cardinals led by as close a score as 27-20, after Rolling Hills scored on an option play after a long pass.
Santa Clarita Christian prevented Rolling Hills from avenging a 49-42 loss in the first round of last season's CIF-SS Div. V Playoffs.
The Cardinals are 2-0 in the Heritage League (5-0 overall).
"They were much more tenacious than we thought they were going to be," said Cardinals defensive coordinator Craig Keoshian.
Even though Rolling Hills Prep attempted to key on Santa Clarita running back Collin Keoshian, putting at least two or three defenders on him at all times, Keoshian still ran for 190 yards on 30 carries. Keoshian also fired a 28-yard pass to Russell Gage for the second touchdown of the game and a 15-7 halftime lead.
Steven Borden scored the first touchdown of the game, one of three on the day. Borden ran for 87 yards. He scored SCCS' third touchdown of the game, a 6-yard rushing touchdown. Colin Mayugh finished with 35 yards and one touchdown.
Outside linebacker Keoshian had 11 tackles. Daniel Chaplin and Ethan Espinoza both had seven.
