Los Angeles police are asking for public assistance in solving the shooting death of a Canyon Country man whose body was found on a street in Mission Hills.

Dave Mendoza, 40, was shot and killed Sunday night in the 9300 block of Columbus Avenue, said Sgt. Bernard Fitchpatrick of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers from the Mission Community Police Station responded to shots fired near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Nordhoff Street at 9:45 p.m., he said.

They arrived to find Mendoza's body riddled with gunshot wounds, Fitchpatrick said.
LAPD detectives spent Monday canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and leads, Officer Kate Lopez said.

LAPD is asking the community for help solving the homicide, Lopez said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mission Hills police station at (818) 838-9800 or (818) 838-9810.
