In a move that is no surprise, Saugus football pulled ahead of Valencia in the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division polls after its 31-24 win on Friday.

The Centurions sit as No. 6, while Valencia moves to No. 7.

Prior to the win, Saugus was ranked No. 8 in the poll and Valencia was No. 5.

The rest of the top half of the list consists of St. Bonaventure at No. 1, followed by Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Paso Robles.

Cougar Domination
The College of the Canyons football team, which is 9-0 and the Northern Division National Conference champion, has been recognized for its success.

COC sits atop 25 teams in the JC Athletic Bureau's official California Community College Football Coaches Association poll.

Continued success
Former Canyon football coach Harry Welch, who led the Cowboys to a state championship in 2006 and six CIF championships (including the state crown) is continuing his success with the Tartans of St. Margaret's High in San Juan Capistrano. Currently the team is 9-0 and is currently on a 37-game winning streak.

Welch's teams are responsible for 23 of those wins. St. Margaret's could benefit from the expansion of the CIF State Bowl games to five contests, as it now includes smaller schools.

The Tartans have a chance of making it to Carson for a championship game should top-ranked Santa Clara of Oxnard falter.

However, despite Santa Clara's 49-6 loss to Oaks Christian on Friday, Santa Clara maintained the No. 1 ranking in the Small Schools South Division poll.

This season, the Tartans have produced six shutouts and are outscoring opponents 472-39. In 2007, Welch led the team to a CIF-Southern Section Northeast Division Championship.

Kreuter Signs
Hart baseball player Kade Kreuter will sign a letter of intent with the University of Southern California, according to Hart baseball statistician Mike Gaber.

Kreuter's father Chad is the team's head coach. He is also the grandson of former longtime College of the Canyons and USC head coach Mike Gillespie.
