Crime watch: Laptops, cash stolen from area vehicles
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station received eight reports of grand theft or burglary from vehicles over the weekend. While many of the reports involved petty goods valued less than $100, two vehicle burglary reports each involved a company laptop. Crime watch: 2007 stats show mixed results in SCV
Violent crimes slightly increased last year in the Santa Clarita Valley, but theft from automobiles and larceny in general increased by 15 percent - according to a report from Sheriff's Department Capt. Anthony La Berge. Violent crimes actually went down within the city of Santa Clarita. The number of arrests made by deputies increased in 2007; residential burglaries decreased last year. Crime watch: Brothers arrested on assault charges
Two brothers spent Easter in custody after they were arrested on Sunday morning after they decided to settle a dispute by using baseball bats on each other at the Castaic Days Inn late Saturday night, according to officials. Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station responded to a report of assault at the Days Inn located at 31410 Castaic Road late Saturday evening. Upon investigation, deputies learned both men were in a nearby trailer. When they searched the trailer and the nearby area, neither man was immediately found. Crime watch: Highway Patrol says it caught thief
On Wednesday, The Signal reported that deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station arrested a Lancaster man after he led them on a car chase on McBean Parkway before crashing into a parked vehicle at a Bridgeport apartment complex. While Sheriff's deputies took the suspect into custody, an off-duty California Highway Patrol officer apparently helped locate him prior to the arrest. Aaron Kellingsworth, 31, fled from a Valencia shopping center on Magic Mountain Parkway and led Sheriff's deputies on a high-speed car chase before he crashed his van outside the apartment complex. Here's the latest direct from the Sheriff's log at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station: Motorbike stolen from Saugus home Three suspects attempted to steal a 2003 Kawasaki KLR650 from a Saugus home on March 4th. However the motorbike's owner caught the suspects in the act as they tried to load the Kawasaki onto their Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. When the victim shouted at them, two of the suspects fled on foot down Garzota Drive, where the attempted theft occurred. The victim convinced the third suspect to help him take the motorbike out of the truck and into the home. ...
