Charlotta Alicia Martinelli turns 100
Newhall resident Charlotta Alicia Martinelli will turn 100 years old on April 1. To help her enjoy the event, friends and family will be having dinner and listening to live entertainment at her apartment complex, The Willows, on March 30 at 4:30 p.m. Martinelli was born on April 1, 1908 to Charles and Josephine Prowse in Dubuque, Iowa, where the family lived until moving north to Kelowna, Canada. Jolene Rebecca Tanner
Jolene Rebecca Tanner, a student of the University of California, Santa Barbara, achieved excellence in her academic work during the fall quarter 2007, and has been selected for the Dean's Honors List. This honor, which is noted on her permanent records, is earned by students who have attained the qualifying grade point average of 3.75 on a program of 12 or more graded units in the College of Letters and Science, or 3.5 in the College of Engineering. Tanner's major is law and society.

Larissa Perkins and Scott Perkins
Two natives of Newhall were recently named to Academic Honors List for the 2007 fall semester at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Larissa Perkins and Scott Perkins were both named to the President's List. They are the daughter and son of Steve and Karen Perkins. Larissa is double major in math and secondary education. Scott is majoring in liberal arts. Students must earn a 4.0 grade average to be named to the President's List.

Brytanie Nicole Piana
Santa Clarita resident Brytanie Nicole Piana has been named to the 2007 fall Dean's List at Southwestern University. To be selected, students must have at least a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale with at least 12 graded hours and be good standing with the university. Southwestern University is a selective, nationally recognized undergraduate liberal arts college with an enrollment of 1,260 students. It is the oldest institution of higher learning in Texas.

Jacqueline Yuri Kikuchi
Jacqueline Yuri Kikuchi of Canyon Country is one of 712 Lafayette College students who have been named to the 2007 fall semester Dean's List, which was recently announced by Hannah Stewart-Gambino, dean of the college. Each of the students has achieved at least a 3.45 semester grade point average out of a possible 4.0. Lafayette is one of only 65 colleges and universities in the nation classified as "most competitive" by Barron's, publishers of "Profiles of American Colleges" and "Guide to the Most Competitive Colleges." There are about 2,300 students and 188 full-time faculty.

Nathan Jon Crookston
On February 12, 2008, Nathan Jon Crookston earned the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout. To celebrate his achievement we would like to invite you to join us at his Eagle Court of Honor on Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. In the cultural hall of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 24915 Peachland Ave., Newhall. Ryan Kuhn
Ryan Kuhn, a freshman from Canyon Country, has been named to the Luther College Dean's list for the fall semester of the 2007-2008 academic year. Kuhn, the son of Kirk and Sandy Kuhn, is a 2007 graduate of Canyon High School. To be named to the dean's list, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades (A, B, C, D). There were 265 seniors named to the Dean's List, 193 juniors, 204 sophomores and 200 freshmen.

Clinton Ibarra
Lockheed Federal Credit Union has selected Saugus High School senior Clinton Ibarra as the recipient of its Student of the Month award for February. He was selected because of his overall performance, including academic accomplishments, extra curricular activities and leadership abilities. "Clinton (Ibarra) is outstanding in every way," said Counselor Ilene Blok, who nominated Ibarra for the award. "He is a strong (Advanced Placement) scholar, having already passed four exams, and he is planning to take three more." Melvin C. Johnson
Senior Melvin C. Johnson of Canyon Country has been named to the Dean's List at West Texas A&M University for the fall semester. Students named to the Dean's List must have a GPA between 3.5 and 3.99 and carry a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours. Johnson graduated the university after the fall semester, with a bachelor's degree in general studies.
