Enjoy the Ski Shooting

Enjoy the Ski Shooting
I remember howling with laughter, back in the day, when "Saturday Night Live" skewered actress Claudine Longet with a sketch on the "Claudine Longet Invitational" ski shooting tournament. Here she repeatedly shot skiers "accidentally" as Chevy Chase and Jane Curtain provided commentary. This sketch was a takeoff on her trial over the shooting death of her boyfriend, Olympic skier Spider Sabich, and I guess an on-air apology had to be issued by the show later ...

A universal ‘Yonkers’

A universal ‘Yonkers’
Some things are timeless and universal, such as the struggles of family members to grow as individuals and overcome the well-practiced "issues" between them. These struggles are meaningful in any era and, if presented right, will touch the heartstrings of anyone who has, well, ever been part of a family. "Lost in Yonkers," which opened at the Repertory East Playhouse last Friday, is a perfect example. Set in a WWII time period, in Yonkers, N.Y., ...

Lunch specials deux

Lunch specials deux
Like many, I received wishes of health and prosperity for the New Year. Unfortunately, also like many others, the latter has not come true yet. What's a hungry foodie to do - especially one that really doesn't like to brown-bag her lunch and thrives on new tastes?

Two Women on Wine: Navigating a wine list

Two Women on Wine: Navigating a wine list
Restaurant wine lists can be a little overwhelming, especially if they bring you the wine list in a leather bound book or a wine "kindle." However, don't let that intimidate you. Ordering wine in a restaurant should not be scary. That's what we always tell people who say they dread the moment it's time to order the wine.

Stomp a puddle today

Stomp a puddle today
I have a visual of what I vaguely remember as the start of a movie. The camera follows a raindrop down from the sky, amid myriad other drops falling, until it lands on ... Batman or somebody. The who, and the what, and the movie are not important. It's just that it occurs to me that the odds in favor of any particular raindrop, in any particular rain storm, being so lucky as to land ...

The first 100 guests at each Togo's location received one free Mini Classic Pastrami Sandwich (between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.). And James Cho, managing partner at our local Togo's, ...

Video Game Review: 'Bayonetta'

Video Game Review: 'Bayonetta'
Bayonetta is the most flamboyant video-game heroine in a long, long time. Leggy, bespectacled and clad in a skintight black catsuit, she struts across the screen like a model stalking the runway. That model, however, is more campy than sexy, more RuPaul than Gisele.
